Favorite Things: Chairs

It may seem silly to say that chairs are one of my favorite things in the room.

Sure, you can sit in them to draw or write or work puzzles or play games.

Sure, you can sit in them when learning together in group time.

But chairs can be used for a lot of other things, too. Just look at how we've used them.

To hold our writing box

Or to hold other things for a center

As a waiting room/doctor's office

As a car

As a boat

As an office/desk chair

As a church

Chairs can be great for a lot of fun things. How have you used chairs to be something else?

  1. Children are wonderful at animating inanimate objects, aren't they. wooden blocks become snow skis (even here where we never have snow), a hammer becomes a microphone, a table becomes a cave, etc, etc.

Just this year our toddlers have used chairs as a bus, a train, a car, a roller coaster, a merry-go-round (carrousel), dentist/doctor chair, movie theatre & barber's/hairdresser's chair.

    Their imagination knows no bounds!

  2. My kids have used chairs to extend their cubbies, turning them around and hanging the sheet over their backs. They also use them as cubby doors when they hang a sheet over a table to make their 'house'. And of course they are good ladders to get those things off high shelves, or to stand at the sink to help me wash the paint jars.

  3. Funny you should write this today Scott - 2 of our boys used a chair as a part of their super dooper collage project yesterday, taping it up with boxes and other bits and pieces. It looked like some kind of art installation
