A Bowl of Beans

The materials were simple - a bowl of mixed beans and a couple of muffin pans.

The result? Two boys fully engaged for at least 20 minutes.

I thought the kids would enjoy sorting. But I could not predict that the boys would stay with it so long.

"Look, it sticks to my hand."
"Wait, that's in the wrong place."
"Finally, we are done," they said. The smiles were big and wide. Mission accomplished.

"Look what we did!"

  1. How very Montessori - That will definitley work in my classroom. :)
Isn't it amazing how children get involved in such simple things. These are the types of things that are on our Practical life shelf and they are very popular activites!
Here is a link so you can peek on my shelves! :)

  3. I'm trying to encourage math at home with my almost 4 year old. I know about these kinds of things, yet I forget. Thanks for reminding me!
