Favorite Things: Oil Drip Pan and Magnet Shapes

A few years ago, a friend told me about using an oil drip pan for a magnet board. When I found one at Walmart, I grabbed one. Now it stays in our room, ready for use when needed. Usually it's a part of the plan but sometimes we pull it out when we need more magnet space. Here are some of the designs we've made.

  3. I've never thought to use one of these Scott. I thinks this is a great idea and like Pam says - so much bigger than cookie sheets.

  4. Sheesh! We went out and bought a "magnet board" from Ikea. I'm sure it cost twice as much as this and by the looks of it it's much larger. Great discovery!

  5. Out of curiosity, is it more lightweight compared to other pans/boards? I work as a nanny and the cookie sheets that the parents own are so heavy that I worry the 2-year-old might knock it over on her toes or a finger.. but it's so much more fun to have it vertical than to lay it on the carpet. :-)

  6. The pan is very lightweight. It definitely would not mash a finger or a bare toe at all.

  8. Love it - the size is great - I think it's wonderful when people think outside of the box for their classroom resources!

  9. sorry, but what is an OIL DRIP PAN? it looks huge. Is it from a mechanics shop for a car???
Really don't know where to get it or what it's intended for.

  10. An oil drip pan (or oil drain pan) is slid underneath a car to catch drips, etc. when changing the oil. I bought mine at Walmart, but you can find them at other discount stores and auto parts stores. I don't know the exact dimensions but it covers our tabletop when we use it on the table. It's every lightweight and easy to use. This link shows one similar to the one I purchased:
