Practicing What They See

My new group likes to play together. The homeliving/dramatic play center has been filled with boys and girls.

Watching their play reminds me of the importance of this type of center. The kids practice what they see at home. They get to play out familiar situations and try out different roles.

They get to practice helping and being a part of the family. Last week we saw one girl carefully slide her hand and arm underneath the baby doll's back and lift, supporting the head. Ms Cindy commented that the girl must have been watching her mother pick up her baby brother.

The classroom is a laboratory...a place where kids can test and try out roles...a place to try out life. And I get to listen in and see how their practice plays out.

How are you helping your kids practice the roles they see around them?
