More Math Today

My last post talked about math and out math routine at the beginning of group time. (Yes, we did it again today.) We were drawing and writing on the white dry erase board today - and math spontaneously appeared again.

L was printing numbers on the board. "C," he would call, "what is 4 plus 4? What comes after 7? That's the answer." He would print numbers as he talked with her about them. Then L and C printed numbers randomly, talking about them and about addition (among other things). C decided to print the numbers 1 through 12.

I commented on what I saw them doing. But I didn't push it or talk too much about it. I didn't want to spoil their enjoyment of numbers and math with some "teaching."

This means 1 plus 1 equals 2.
